WHO WE ARE

Shaping the travel experience into a service.

Tsurunomaru BASE is a business that plans, develops, and operates digital services to turn the cultures and stories you encounter on your travels into experiences you can feel more deeply. As its first business, it operates the multilingual audio guide GuideTunes.

Not only the time spent looking at sights, but the time spent walking through town, waiting for a dish, and eating a meal — we are turning the many moments within a journey into experiences where you can come to know the place.

TravelTo feel the scenery in front of you more deeply.

MESSAGE

GuideTunes began with a feeling from the road:
“I want to know more.”

Representative, Tsurunomaru BASEGenki Mori

When you travel, you can be moved by a building, a culture, or a dish right in front of you — and still walk past it without ever learning its story.

Joining a guided tour lets you learn in depth, but with fixed times and routes it can be a hard choice for people who want to travel at their own pace. Searching will eventually turn up information, but while you search, your eyes leave the scenery in front of you.

If you could learn the background of a place at whatever time you like, in your own language, without keeping your eyes on a screen, travel would become deeper. From that thought, I created GuideTunes.

Tsurunomaru BASE does not treat using technology as a goal in itself; we use it as a means for people to learn, feel, and remember what they meet on their travels. Precisely because this business began small, we face the voices of users and partners, improve one step at a time, and grow it responsibly.

OUR PRINCIPLES

What we hold important

MISSION

Turn the “I don’t get it” of travel
into “I know it — and I feel it.”

We create experiences where you can understand the background of the places and cultures in front of you, in your own language.

VISION

Build a future where, at destinations around the world,
anyone can encounter the stories of a place at their own pace.

We will carry the experience we started in Japan across the country — and, in time, to the world.

Keep the scenery in the leadWe design so that the scenery and experience of the place — not the service’s screen — remain the star.
Deliver in words you can understandRather than mere literal translation, we aim for expression that conveys the background even to people new to the culture.
Verify before we deliverEven when we use AI, we do not publish as-is; we check content, expression, rights, and user flows.
Improve together with usersWe never fix it as finished; we keep improving based on how it is used and what we hear.
OUR BUSINESS

that carry travel and culture to people.

GuideTunes is a service planned, developed, and operated by Tsurunomaru BASE.

Tsurunomaru BASE bears operational responsibility for GuideTunes: its service design, content planning, system development, payments, user support, partner support, and quality improvement. Some technical infrastructure, payments, voice generation, translation, and delivery rely on external services, but the final decisions about published content and the user experience are made by Tsurunomaru BASE.

QUALITY & EDITORIAL PROCESS

Because this is an experience of knowing,
we take responsibility for how it is made.

  1. Choosing themes and subjectsWe decide each theme by asking whether it is worth knowing on site, and in what moment it will be heard.
  2. Research and source checkingWe consult public institutions, official facility information, and reliable sources, and confirm the grounds for what we say.
  3. Structuring and writing for travelersRather than a list of facts, we edit into an order and expression that connect with the scenery in front of you.
  4. Translation and cultural contextWe add background a literal translation would miss, and adjust the wording so it is easy to understand in each language.
  5. Audio production and implementationWe check the length, pace, pauses, and sound quality for listening while walking, and implement it as a playback experience.
  6. Pre-release checks, post-release improvementWe check content, display, audio, rights, links, and payments, and keep updating based on usage and feedback.

Where content has an editorial supervisor, we credit that supervisor individually on the relevant page.

We use AI as a tool to deepen human understanding.

GuideTunes uses AI to assist with research, drafting and structure, translation, voice generation, image production, and parts of system development. At the same time, we never treat AI-generated content as unconditionally correct. Before anything is published, we check the facts, expression, cultural considerations, rights, on-screen display, and audio quality — and the final decision to publish, along with operational responsibility, rests with Tsurunomaru BASE.

From Tokyo to all of Japan. From Japan to the world.

GuideTunes begins in Tokyo. First, we focus on building an experience that travelers actually use, that genuinely helps them, and that is worth paying for.

On that track record and travelers’ voices, we will partner with regions, facilities, and shops across Japan, expanding into a system that conveys the history and culture found nowhere else. In time, we aim for a state where — not only visitors to Japan, but travelers anywhere in the world — anyone can encounter the stories of a place in their own language, at their own pace.
